Holding the Hope
“The other day, one of my clients through ACT was
having a really difficult time with some disturbing
thoughts. He’s had little success with treatment in
the past for his mental illness and he is constantly
bothered by thoughts of being a horrible person
that God hates. As I left his house, he stopped me
and asked me if I still had hope for him. When I
confidently told him that I had hope for him even
though it would be difficult and take a lot of hard
work from him, he smiled and his entire
countenance brightened. It was like a heavy cloud
lifted off his face. As I left the visit, I was struck by
how literal “holding the hope” can be.”
